Practice Areas

Divorce

Divorce can be uncontested with mutual agreement or traditional, which may require legal proceedings, document exchanges, and court involvement if the parties cannot agree on key issues.

Alimony

Alimony is financial support one spouse may pay the other based on need and ability. Florida offers several types, with the amount and duration depending on factors like marriage length and each spouse’s income.

Child Custody

Florida no longer uses the term “physical custody,” as equal time-sharing between parents is now the legal presumption. “Legal custody” is called Shared Parental Responsibility, where both parents jointly make major decisions for the child.

Child Support

Child support is calculated using a statutory formula based on each parent's income, expenses, and time-sharing schedule. Payments ensure both parents contribute fairly to the child’s financial needs.

Parenting Plans

Parenting Plans outline how parents will share time and responsibilities for their child, including schedules, decision-making, and communication. Equal time-sharing is the starting point, but courts consider each family’s needs.

Paternity

A paternity case in Florida establishes legal rights for unmarried parents. Without a court order, fathers have no guaranteed custody or time-sharing, even if named on the birth certificate.

Modifications

Modifications to child support, alimony, or parenting plans require a substantial, unexpected change in circumstances. Courts carefully evaluate whether the change justifies altering the original court order.

Contempt & Enforcement Actions

Contempt and enforcement actions in Florida are used when a party fails to follow a family court order. Courts can impose penalties, including fines or jail time, to ensure compliance with support or parenting terms.

Domestic Violence Injunction

A domestic violence injunction is a court order that protects someone from abuse or threats. It can include temporary restrictions, and after a hearing, the court may issue a longer-term or permanent injunction.
